The Wounded Soul - A Poem

The Wounded Soul

This poem is about the research work done by John Bradshaw describing how the Inner Child is being wounded through Abandonment and lack of parental care as described by Erik Erikson in his Epigenetics Theory.

Trudging haplessly

Peeking curiously

Dreading the altercation

Going deeper into

The bottomless pit

Trapped in the utter servility

Learned through the regimen

Of the injunctions heaped upon

The sheer innocence

Of the lamb, blindfolded

Treading through the darkness

Never discerning

Adrift, oblivious to the conundrum

Ambling along,

In a trance like state

Laughing through the rain

Crying through the sunshine

The road seems endless

Unfeeling, unmoved

By the ordeal

The wounded soul

Is enmeshed

Of the tangled wires

Ensconced upon

By the poisonous pedagogy

That’s being fed to the lambs

Until the time comes

It becomes a bitter pill

Swallowing it is suffocating

Repulsive, appalling

The only recourse

Is to go through the pain

Feel it, savor the moment

Grieving through the process

Of enlightenment

Embracing life’s

Unreserved bliss

Freeing the lamb

And let it scamper freely

Unhampered, liberating

The autonomy felt

Of the cleansed Spirit…

Incredibly profound and painful - with enough glimmer of hope to rise above the storm.

I totally agree with missolive. This is self examination and provoking. There are so many wounded in our world, deserving of more than what life gives them. Love must prevail over all things and hope. Simply beautiful, well scribed.

Deep and painful, there are many out there wounded by the selfishness of some.. hurting because of a world that does not care. Beautiful!

The imagery of lamb is truly wonderful. Your evoke eternal sadness in your poem.

But I appreciate the esthetic quality of your composition.

I love your poetry,

I can feel your words.

Your soul speaks with softness, like a waterfall that hits on a butterfly's wings.

You are a gentle loving spirit, that I would like take with me on trip to the stars.

Raci, so much sadness! Your poetry, the topic, the words that you have chosen to express all add to the sublime quality of the poem. The way your emotions flow is amazing. Such deep feelings and love for the deprived and downtrodden make this poem a piece worth collecting. I am in awe of your talent my dear friend.

I identified with the blind folded lamb. Inside of us we have that innocent, freightened child. Wonderful poem that really brings to life the journey of the inner child, raciniwa!

raciniwa profile image

raciniwa Hub Author 3 months ago

Yes, KrystalD...we are born innocent...ready to explore the world, until such time that our wonder and awe were curtailed by the limitations set for us, thus numbing our hurts, bruising our soul...

Thank you for leaving such an insightful comment...

I love how, even in the depths of the deepest trough, that we can find it in our spirit to gain the courage and strength and rise above the very things that hurt or pain us. Wounds do heal eventually, but they take time. I love the subject of this hub. You are a great writer. :)
