My Quintessence: A teacher's Reflection
64My Reflection on the stage play: “Ang Guro”
“The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death.
(Proverbs 13:14)”. This quote reminds me of the role the teacher in the stage play “Ang Guro” portrays. Since I have started teaching in 1997, I tried my best to be a good role model and a good teacher for my students by advising them, supporting them any way I could especially by letting them join contests; moreover giving financial aid when the need arose. That has been the case for my so many years of teaching, but unresolved issues have taken its toll on me that time came I haven’t much energy for my students. I let my enthusiasm die a natural death. I hardly took time to listen to their woes anymore. Gone was the teacher who took so much passion in her teaching for the students, I became a mere cog in the wheel that later I realized I could not stand it anymore. I became a living dead, for I realized if the system wouldn’t work for the students’ welfare: why would I care? I am simply burnt out. I am feed up by the system.
But the play has touched this frozen heart, it made me realize that my work is not for the system but for the students. I cried almost half of the play for I realized how insensitive I have been, that I forgot my call, my vow and that is upholding the best interest of my students. It is a play for me that would forever be imbued in my heart. A play that mirrors what my fellow co teachers have overlooked, that our job is not for the government, it is more than that, they breathe, they have life, above all they are humans.

Hi raciniwa,
You are a teacher and a great one,so obviously because you did ask yourself these questions.
The ones who are in the wrong profession don't question themselves.
This hub tells me so much about you and that you are indeed a great teacher, and why is that? Well because you care .
Take care my friend, I vote this one up and I wish you a wonderful day.
Eddy.
I know where you are coming from; I worked with our Youth Offending Team for 6 years ,and even though I cared I could not change a system that at times makes no sense at all.
Eddy.
You are a wonderful, caring person...it's obvious. Your students are blessed to have you as their teacher. Both of my daughters are teachers and their students have made them laugh, cry...they haven't taught as long as you but I understand how you feel. Do something fun for you Raci!:)
This is a lovely story. We need more teachers like you. Thank you..
Auntie your a great Teacher, really i appreciate you all the way in writing.
This is a wonderful hub. I am glad you rediscovered your passion. :)
The best hearts and minds in the world are those that question themselves! Just think of those little minds that one day will look back and remember how neither of you knew it at the time but ,YOU saved them from failure , from isolation, from low self esteem.....and they will think of you fondly!....:-} I have a couple of teachers like that . That teacher is you!
I finally got around to finding your comment Raciniwa and to reading your hubs again, this is a beautiful illustration of your feelings & passion for teaching, even though it was very honest, and at times appeared to be a struggle for you.
I myself been a teacher for many years in the hiding & very so secretively. I always felt that teaching from the heart need not require a school or label as such, unlike teaching from the mind.
I think many so-called teachers who've been given the title of such, never truly learn to grasp the essence of being a teacher from the soul. What I mean is, I feel a teacher who truly cares will possess inner qualities that can only derive from love of self as well as love of the children or their students/pupils.
You obviously got this down pact & I commend you on your undertaking of the very difficult teachers role that many people only have learned to play instead of truly become & own.
Thanks for all your kind comments on my hubs as well, & this one is definitely voted up on every area accept funny. Oh & those are some pretty awesome images of you.
Many teachers have taught me over the years and with their inspiration I hold onto knowledge as if was gold.I admire and respect the way you do your job and have gone beyond any measure to help people.I open my arms and jump for joy for a teacher with your love and enthusiasm.I am always a student and it would be a pleasure to have you as my teacher.I am sure your pupils are thankful now and the ones that don't see it some day they will also realize and appreciate all that you do.It is too bad school politics, business and red tape get in the way.If they would only remember when they were young.

They are humans! These kids under you, are future persons that might chang e the world. We all had influential teachers and it shows in here. Glad you did think about your role and your commitment set to go in 1997. Thanks Raciniwa for your reflexions in here!
